The Marble Game
“A Maze” by Marco Iannicelli

We previously introduced a retro style arcade gaming console, but this time we go further back down the timeline and turn our attention to a physical gaming console. Created by independent product design artist Marco Iannicelli, “A Maze” is an analogue and electronic gaming console with the main part crafter beautifully in marble.

A Maze is an artistic take on the familiar gaming console usually made with wood. Taking a closer look you’d realise the labyrinth is made up of seven concentric rings that are linked together. There is no ending for the game, illustrating the complexity of the space-time continuum and making it understandable and tangible. The number “seven” was selected as it is a number we come across daily (as in seven days a week), but it is also the subject of psychologist George A. Miller’s theory, that an average person can only hold seven objects simultaneously in short term memory.

A Maze is currently listed in the “Non products” section of Iannicelli of the website. Hopefully it will be exhibited again soon or turned into a limited production.
