The history of space exploration
Past and Present Dreams of the Future.

NASA headquarters in the United States has just completed a six year journey aimed at expressing the past, present, and future of aerospace technology.

The photographic project, called “Past and Present Dreams of the Future” began in 2010, and was founded by science journal “WIRED” and photographer Benedict Redgrove. A portion of it will be published in the November issue of “WIRED” and will continue to be published until NASA launches its new SLS rocket in 2018.

Redgrove’s journey began when seeing images of Neil Armstrong walking on the moon on his mother’s television when he was a child. This series of images planted seeds that would grow into a life-long passion for space travel, eventually leading to the commencement of this project in 2010. Shooting the past, present and the future of space technology by NASA, his images not only feature classic equipment but also recent or future products to be released by NASA. Amongst the images released so far, the Orion spacecraft, Boeing Starliner manned spacecraft, and the humanoid robot Valkyrie. Redgrove says that some of his images took 60 frames to make up. Not only are the huge images impactful and able to allow people to indulge in space science and its technology, it also records and acts as a tribute to those who have dedicated their time to record aerospace history with images.
