The Art of Origami
Ji-hee Lee’s Classic Camera Series

Seoul-based paper artist Ji-hee Lee has recreated some iconic film cameras using carefully sculpted coloured paper and cardboard. Lee calls these expertly folded life-sized assemblies his “Classic Camera” series. Among his striking recreations are the 1952 Leica IIIf Red Dial, the 1948 Vidax, the 1927 Tropen Adoro and the 1938 Super Kodak Six-20.

“As anyone can take a picture with their mobile phone in this era, they feel the nostalgia for film cameras,” the artist says, “Contax, Rolleiflex, and Leica have a large body since they need space for the film canister, as well as a lens. The weighty body and lenses give the device a huge impression. Each classical camera — which is the integration of the optical technology and the industrial design of the time — is coloured to give it liveliness.”
