Two New York-based creatives, hi-fi studio Silence Please and furniture designer Kouros Maghsoudi, have joined forces. Their latest project, a special limited-edition version of the Hum speaker, transforms a high-fidelity bookshelf speaker into something that sits somewhere between functional audio equipment and sculptural furniture.
The Kouros x Silence Please Hum speaker carries Maghsoudi’s unmistakable visual language throughout its design. Wet-lacquer finishes, exaggerated curves, and stacked geometric forms give the speaker an appearance that feels both futuristic and deeply rooted in downtown New York aesthetics. The front façade conceals the drivers entirely, creating a cleaner, more restrained silhouette that places greater emphasis on shape and material rather than exposed technology.
The inspiration comes directly from New York club culture, drawing references from brutalist interiors, oversized sound systems, and the atmosphere of late-night dance venues. Yet despite its artistic presentation, the Hum remains a serious piece of hi-fi equipment beneath the surface.
Configured as a two-way passive loudspeaker, the Hum pairs a 6.5-inch woofer with a horn-loaded tweeter housed within a 15-litre bass-reflex enclosure tuned to 45 Hz. The horn itself is based on the Jean-Michel Le Cléac’h profile, a design known among audiophiles for its smooth tonal balance and natural sound dispersion. Silence Please says the result is a speaker capable of producing a remarkably immersive soundstage, with extended bass, lifelike vocal projection and impressive clarity without harshness or listening fatigue.
Measuring 298×298×596 mm, the Kouros x Silence Please Hum is substantial enough to make a visual statement while remaining suitable for domestic spaces. Limited to just ten pairs worldwide, the speakers are available in Bone, Black, or bespoke custom finishes.
