Tapping Into Le Mans
Fernando Alonso tipped for Toyota LMP1 test

When Fernando Alonso renewed his contract with McLaren for Formula 1 last month, it was made clear that he could participate in additional racing if there are no conflicts with his F1 schedule. After the recent announcement that Alonso will contest the 2018 Daytona 24 Hours under McLaren, Motorsport reported that the Spaniard could also drive for Toyota at Le Mans 24 Hours next year.

Alonso has always been open about the desire of winning the Triple Crown of Motorsport, namely the Indianapolis 500, Le Mans and Monaco Grand Prix. Reports have it that Alonso visited the Toyota Motorsport GmbH factory in Cologne earlier this week for a seat fitting, and is set to drive a Toyota TS050 Hybrid in the rookie test in Bahrain on November 19. While Toyota has not confirmed its participation in the FIA World Endurance Championship for next season, it does look like it intends to stay in the series for the long term.
