Steampunk Dream
Jawa Sprint Motorcycle by Urban Motors

Glemseck 101 is an annual motorcyclist’s celebration to be held on September 2nd to 4th 2016 at Leonberg in southern Germany. Every year it attracts and showcases the most exciting one-off custom motorcycle designs from around the world. This year, there will be a design that will be just breathtaking.

Berlin-based Urban Motors calls this steampunk-styled dream “EASY”. They removed all but the engine of a 1964 Jawa 350, rebuilding the whole new chassis from steel tubing. The design of the aluminium alloy bodywork has no throw-away or incidental lines and was a collaboration with Marvin Diehl of KRT Framework, who fashioned the metal himself as well as “EASY’s” suspension design, and integrated handlebars. Other custom made elements include the exposed throttle assembly, grips wrapped in Red Wing leather, a seat made to specifications by C. Benda and the single touch of matte gold paint on the forks and swingarm by Sven van den Brandt.

The startling creation is suspended between two skinny 23” alloy SM Pro rims. The Jawa engine is fitted with a Jikov carburettor and matched with a couple of elegantly short exhausts. It weighs only 90 kg.

Urban Motors is entering EASY in the event’s Essenza sprint competition, although its steampunk style and modest specs leave it helpless against 21st-century technologies like of the BMW R nineT and Triumph Thruxton R. Not to worry. There is also the best-designed bike award, and EASY’s slowness just gives fans a longer time to enjoy its ultra-cool fabrication and gorgeous details.
