Shiny Mechanical Timepiece
L’Epée 1839 Time Fast II Chrome Clock

Over ther last few years, Swiss luxury clockmaker L’Epée 1839 has created several mechanical clocks under the Time Fast series, which uses classic race cars as aesthetic inspiration. The latest addition to the collection is the Time Fast II in chrome, and once again it brings motor racing, art, and functionality together into one beautiful timepiece.

L’Epée cites the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa and Lamborghini Miura as iconic representations of the 1960s racing sports car, and it’s these aesthetics that have inspired the design of the Time Fast II. The clock is built on an H-chassis in aluminium, just like the original cars of the era were. The body is also made of aluminium and has been given a reflective Silver Chrome finish, paired with classic stainless-steel spoked wheel rims.

The hours and minutes rotating disks located above the engine tell the time, and are powered by an eight-day movement featuring a 2.5 Hertz escapement that can be viewed through the driver’s helmet and a mainspring replacing the passenger’s seat.  There is also a second movement just for the engine automat. On the dashboard, we find a key that starts the V8 engine — once activated, the pistons will go up and down. Pulling the race car backwards is the only way to wind the movements, and the manual gear lever is responsible for controlling which movement to wind. The three-spoke steering wheel has its uses, too. Other than repositioning the wheels as you would in a real car, the steering wheel also sets the time when turned counterclockwise.

Only 99 pieces will be available for this meticulously built horological race car.
