Self-Parking Slippers
Nissan introduces ProPILOT Park hotel amenities

While plenty of automakers are developing autopilot technology, Nissan is taking a different path than the rest. Recently the Japanese automaker partnered with a Hakone-area inn to provide guests with fantastic amenities; self-parking slippers, powered by the ProPILOT Park autonomous driving technology.

The ProPILOT Park Ryokan is a collaborative effort between Nissan and Tonosawa Ichinoyu Honkan. At first glance, the hotel looks like any other traditional Japanese inn or ryokan. Slippers are neatly lined up in the foyer where guests remove their shoes. But once you step inside one of the tatami rooms, you will find the low sitting tables and floor cushions connected to a special version of Nissan’s ProPILOT Park autonomous parking technology. When not in use, they automatically return to their designated spots with the push of a button.

First introduced in Japan with the all-new Nissan LEAF last October, ProPILOT Park technology detects surrounding objects and lets drivers automatically park the vehicle in a selected parking space by pressing a button. The same technology is being used in the amenities at the ProPILOT Park Ryokan as a demonstration to entertain guests and reduce staff workload.

Meanwhile, Nissan is offering a free night at the ProPILOT Park Ryokan for one lucky pair of travellers. Details can be found here.
