Rollable Smartphone Concept
Motorola Adaptive Display Concept

Foldable smartphones have become commonplace in 2023, with options available from Samsung, Google, Sony, and Motorola, spanning various price ranges. However, at the Lenovo Tech World ’23, Motorola introduced a conceptual smartphone featuring a fully bendable display.

Motorola has conceptualized an Android smartphone to demonstrate the potential of the adaptive display concept. Employing a flexible FHD+ pOLED display capable of bending into different forms based on the user’s needs, the conceptual phone doesn’t appear much different from a standard smartphone when its 6.9-inch display is laid flat. However, in the upright position, the device bends to form a stand with the lower part of the phone, providing a more compact display for viewing. Remarkably, the device can even wrap around the wrist like a strap, with the display area remaining fully functional.

Beyond the adaptive display concept, Motorola is also exploring a range of AI concepts to support future devices. The MotoAI concept serves as a personal assistant utilizing large language models (LLMs) to answer questions, draft messages, schedule tasks, and more. Various AI concepts enable tasks such as text summarization for messages and emails, improved document scanning with clearer texts and images, and Privacy Content Obfuscation to safeguard user information in social posts. Users can even capture an image of their outfit to generate AI-generated images as custom wallpaper on their device.

Despite the promising nature of these technologies, Motorola has yet to announce plans for production.
