Pininfarina and JAS Motorsport have joined forces to reimagine one of the most well-known names in modern performance cars with the JAS Tensei. After initial glimpses last October, full details have now been unveiled during Milan Design Week.
Tensei marks JAS Motorsport’s first road-going high-performance model, shaped by Pininfarina’s design philosophy and rooted in the legacy of the original Honda NSX. The name “Tensei”, meaning rebirth in Japanese, reflects the ambition behind the project. Rather than a straightforward restomod, it’s a more considered reinterpretation based on the NSX’s core principles: balance, usability and emotional engagement.
Built on carefully selected first-generation NSX donor cars from the early 1990s, the Tensei features an entirely new carbon-fibre body and a significantly revised overall package. Proportions have been reworked with a longer wheelbase, wider track, and lower stance, giving the car a more assertive presence. Pronounced rear shoulders and flared arches emphasise its width, while familiar design cues such as pop-up headlights, rectangular side intakes, and an integrated rear wing remain as subtle references to the original.
Beneath the new bodywork, the engineering stays true to the analogue spirit of the original NSX. Power comes from a naturally aspirated V6 inspired by the original architecture, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The emphasis remains on response and driver engagement—the qualities that defined the NSX in the first place. While little information has been shared about the interior, Pininfarina notes that the cabin focuses on ergonomics, visibility, and driving purity, with a more refined execution and higher-quality materials bringing it in line with contemporary expectations.
Tensei will be produced in an ultra-limited quantity at JAS Motorsport’s Atelier in Arluno, near Milan, while bespoke customisations will be handled by Pininfarina at its atelier in Turin.
