Disappointments

With a minute remaining in Q1, Max Verstappen’s Toro Rosso stopped at the Hairpin, his engine out of power and his gearbox locked in gear. His stricken car ended up sitting on the racing line and produced yellow flags which caught out many drivers in the midst of setting their fastest laps. Stewards hit the rookie with a three place grid penalty for leaving his car on the racing line, despite his car being locked solidly in gear.

Had Riccardo and Massa not come together before they even reached the first turn, they would have had the best battle of the race, as each car showed plenty of speed after their repairs.
