Luck of the day

Just as the final laps of Q3 began, Daniil Kvyat, who was the lead driver on the track, put his left side tires onto the grass at the right-hand kink on the approach to the Hairpin and the rear of Red Bull snapped away from him.

Despite the Russian’s quick correction, his car snapped to the left into the gravel trap and he speared slammed into the barriers at high speed. The car hit, deflected upward and snap-spun after gouging into the gravel.Thankfully, it landed upright, both left side wheels ripped off and little salvageable from the rear axle back. Kvyat was alert, but bruised, and was able to communicate immediately to the team. It was a very close call.
