One Of The Two Originals
1970 Ford Torino King Cobra Prototype

Prototypes, like many test cars, often don’t survive all the tests and trials they’re put through, let alone remain in a driveable condition 47 years later. The 1970 Ford Torino King Cobra prototype shown here, being one of the only two developed, is exactly that.

The Torino features one-of-a-kind aerodynamic upgrades and is quipped with a big block V8 Boss 429 engine that is tuned to produced over 700 hp. The Torino King Cobra was meant to follow on from the previous Torino Talladega racing in NASCAR, but it never made it past the prototype stage due to a management change within Ford, a large budget cut and the changing of rules in NASCAR. According to the original invoice from Ford, NASCAR car owner Bud Moore purchased the two units of prototypes at just US$ 1,200 in 1971. The one shown here, after being abandoned for years, recently underwent a complete restoration, and is now priced at US$ 459,900. More details of this rare prototype can be found from the selling agent RK Motors.
