Omega Globemaster
The world’s first METAS-certified master chronometer.

Omega’s Globemaster caused quite a stir when it was unveiled at Baselworld this year, and rightfully so. Besides the model’s pared-back, Constellation-style aesthetics and fluted bezel — which undeservedly drew comparisons to Rolex — the Globemaster’s groundbreaking design is the first-ever watch to be certified as a chronometer by by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS.) To obtain this lofty status, the design was subjected to 8 stringent tests that replicated real-life wearing conditions over a span of 10 days – including exposure to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss.

“We all know about the importance of beautiful products, history and innovation,” said Swatch Group CEO Nick Hayek of hte METAS certification. “But one other thing is so important. That’s trust. Trust for our consumers. By working with an independent organisation such as METAS, we can be transparent for the consumer, and reconfirm that the Swiss watch industry is the leader in precision and innovation.”
