New Driving POV
McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo for Gran Turismo Sport

McLaren has created a breath-taking model, though it’s not a concept car nor is it a production model – it will only exist virtually. The McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo was created exclusively for Gran Turismo Sport on PlayStation 4.

The Automaker emphasises that the Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo is not a prototype for any future McLaren model, but rather a showcase of the type of car McLaren could build beyond 2030. Gamers will have three livery options to choose from, namely Performance, Ulterior and Noir.

McLaren has pushed beyond the boundary of current realities and adhered to ‘form follows function’ during the design process. The Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo has a teardrop cabin, while the driver is positioned lying on their front facing forward and centrally in the chassis, with the rest of the car ‘shrink wrapped’ around them.

The virtual McLaren car has a hybrid powertrain, featuring a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine that powers the rear wheels and two electric motors that each drives a front wheel. The combined output is 1,134 and 1,275 Nm of torque, while the car only weighs 1,000 kg thanks to the extensive use of carbon fibre. The ultra-advanced aerodynamic technology used on board is called Integrated Active Aero. It works by opening tiny aperture covers around air inlets to adjust drag and downforce instead of moving the surfaces altogether.

Gran Turismo Sport will be available on October 17.
