NASA × Parker Brothers Mars Machine
Mars Rover Concept

NASA has just released its latest Mars Rover Concept, designed and created by Parker Brothers Concepts. You might already be familiar with the work of Parker Brothers Concepts, as they have previously designed the Batmobile and the Bat Pod, as well as the Lightcycle in Tron: Legacy. That same sense of futuristic cinema and Hollywood bravado has most definitely been instilled in this new vehicle.

The 13 feet wide, 11 feet tall and 24 feet long machine is not only impressive to look at, it’s also equipped with an extra high chassis and 50-inch airless wheels. The designers have also coated the vehicle in black, so that the solar radiation, which we back on earth are protected from by the planet’s natural magnetosphere, will be minimised. The interior is very similar to that of an SUV, but also contains a full research laboratory enabling researchers to conduct different experiments while on the martian surface. The vehicle’s top speed is said to be 112km/h, though a speed of 16-24km/h is more realistic when moving around the unpredictable terrain of Mars.

The Mars Rover Concept is being showcased at the Kennedy Space Centre until the end of June, when it will begin its tour of the East Coast including New York City and Washington DC.
