Phillips’ post-war and contemporary design auction

Designs from Art Deco and Post-War periods always have a huge number of followers as the furniture and household pieces’ clean and sleek silhouettes can easily complement a contemporary apartment. The upcoming Philips New York design auction features over 160 lots of masterpieces from last century’s French and Italian masters as well as some contemporary works from international designers, including works by Pierre Chareau, Jean Royère, Ron Arad, Shiro Kuramata, Gio Ponti and Piero Fornasetti.

Gio Ponti’s rare “Madrepore” dining table complete with a set of four armchairs circa 1950 and decorated by household name Piero Fornasetti is one of the highlights of the post-war period. The duo collaborated successfully on numerous interior pieces for homes, shops and offices. The wooden dinner table has elongated, slender legs with black and white lithographic images scattered over the brightly painted surfaces. For contemporary lovers, don’t miss Ron Arad’s “Oh, the Farmer and the Cowman Should be Friends” with the shape of the continental United States executed in 2009.

The auction will take place on June 6th at 450 Park Avenue, New York, and the full lots can now be viewed on Phillips’ website.
