Ares Design S1 Project Spyder

Modena-based company Ares Design recently unveiled its stunning S1 Project supercar. Now a roofless version in Barchetta styling has also been announced, with only 24 examples set to be hand-crafted by the boutique coach builder.

Like the coupé, the S1 Project Spyder is based on a carbon fibre and aluminium platform sourced from a 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8, though its stunning new streamlined carbon fibre bodywork makes it difficult to tell what the base car is. With the absence of the roof and windscreen, the Spyder offers the ultimate driving experience aided by two wind deflectors redirecting airflow over the passengers into air intakes behind the headrests, forming a virtual shield that ensures pleasant driving at high speeds.

The S1 Project Spyder is powered by a mid-mounted naturally aspirated V8 engine producing 715hp and is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in only 2.7 seconds. Power is delivered via the rear wheels and an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while other features include a bespoke exhaust system and revised ECU, double wishbone suspension, forged aluminium axles and adaptive Magnetic Ride Control. Special attention to detail has been paid throughout the interior of the roofless model. The S1 Project Spyder features bespoke hand-crafted components decorated with fine Napa leather and Alcantara. The human-machine interface is placed entirely on the centre console and dashboard, leaving each passenger embraced by minimalistic lines.
