8-bit F1 2016 season review

As 2017 is fast approaching, there has been a predictable influx of year-in-review videos over the last month, but one piece in particular stands out from the rest. Formula 1 just released a short video recapping the 2016 season and instead of stacking it with the usual frenzied racing clips, the F1 team turns this year’s highlights into old-school 8-bit video game style cartoon.

There is an interesting telling of Esteban Gutierrez and Fernando Alonso’s infamous crash in Australia early in the season, and Max Verstappen becoming the youngest ever winner in Grand Prix history and Nico Rosberg beating Lewis Hamilton then immediately retiring are of course covered. The events are accounted with humorous twists so perhaps we should leave you to watch the video without revealing too much more. Now all that’s left is for someone to convince F1 to turn this into an actual playable mini game; just think of the hours that could be wasted!
