Chopard is once again taking part in the Only Watch charity auction this year, and for the sixth time they’ve created a unique edition watch; this time it’s a Superfast 8 Hz Power Control, tributing the six-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx.
Limited to just one piece, the Superfast watch specially made for the Only Watch auction features a midnight blue dial, a shade inspired by Jacky Ickx’s racing helmet. His favourite number “20” and signature can be found at 6 o’clock position. “Jacky Ickx – unique piece” is engraved at the case back while the commemorative wording “ONLYWATCH 2017” is printed in the middle of the back. The 45 mm case is inspired by the Porsche 919 Hybrid and made with resistant and lightweight titanium. The power reserve indicator at 9 o’clock on the dial mimics the design of speedometer found on Porsche race cars.
The Only Watch special edition is powered by in-house Calibre 01.11-M movement with a 60-hour power reserve. The openworked oscillating weight and the bridges are worked out like the cylinder head and air vents of a high-performance engine respectively. Unlike other mechanical movements of 4 Hz, Calibre 01.11-M operates at 8 Hz and beats 57,600 times per hour for greater precision. Additionally, the movement is equipped with a silicon escapement that offers better anti-wear and anti-magnetic performance than the traditional metal ones. Most importantly, it is also an authentic chronometer certified by the COSC, a rare achievement for this particularly high frequency.
