It’s Getting Closer
Mercedes-AMG Project One F1 powertrain revealed

A subject of grand speculation since the end of last year, Mercedes-AMG finally unveiled the core of their Project One hypercar, its powerful hybrid Formula 1 powertrain, in the hours before the start of Nürburgring 24 Hours.

The 1.6-litre V6 engine is derived from Lewis Hamilton’s F1 car and is tuned to redline at 11,000 rpm, and employs a turbocharger supported by a dedicated electric motor for guaranteed power boost. Two more electric motors are assigned to the front wheels while a third unit drives the crankshaft. The system’s combined output will exceed 1,000 hp, with around 730 hp coming from the combustion engine alone, which sports a thermal efficiency of 43 percent.

The final design should present adaptive suspension featuring variable driving modes, an eight-speed automatic gearbox and lots of carbon fibre. Its formal introduction is expected at the Frankfurt Motor Show this coming September. The ultra-performance hybrid will cost 2.25 million Euros, but it’s probably not destined for your driveway as most of the 275 examples already have owners.
