Leica Sofort

Leica has been on a very successful creative binge in recent years, and while its high-end product development pace is impressive as always, the company has just delivered an entirely unexpected choice for the rest of us; Leica’s first instant photo camera; the Leica Sofort, which is aimed squarely at the younger consumer market. Weighing just 325 grams, the camera uses familiar Fujifilm Instax Photobooth film so there is no need to worry about any support issues.

Since it is a Leica, the camera is built around the lens. The Sofort comes with an AutoMatik-Hektor 1:12.7 60mm fixed focus lens, offering three focus modes including the 0.6 standard group setting, a 0.3m macro for close-ups, and a 3m infinity preset for landscapes. The internal functions are also similar to the Fujifilm Instant Camera. The Sofort’s custom functions include a self-timer, a B shutter, a longer self-timer, auto double-exposures, motion effects, and flash as well as exposure compensation settings. As if the camera isn’t a big enough surprise,  Leica intends to release its very own black and white film, causing our inner artist to bubble with anticipation. The Sofort is priced at USD $299, in three colour options: white, orange and mint green and will be available in November.
