Mercedes-Benz brings back body parts production for 300 SL “Gullwing”

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Gullwing” of the 1950s is one of the most recognisable cars in the world, but also an extremely rare one with 1,400 examples built between 1954 and 1957.  Mercedes-Benz Classic has decided to start reproducing metal body parts for this classic model.

Since the 300 SL is popular in classic rallies and parades such as the historic Mille Miglia, we can imagine there is a relatively high demand for its parts. The fact that the introduction of the new product line generates the necessary publicity is also a nice bonus. Each body part is produced by a certified supplier through 3D data and colour matching from the original car for the best results. The metal parts are also finished by hand using wooden mallets, so the process is a combination of modern technology and traditional craftsmanship. Currently the automaker has listed front panelling, rear panelling, rear-end centre sections and rear-end floors for reproduction with prices starting at 2,975 euros.
