Hydrogen-Powered Aircraft
Sirius Jet

Swiss company Sirius Aviation AG is pioneering the development of the first hydrogen-powered business jet equipped with vertical take-off and landing capabilities. Established in 2021, the company has rapidly garnered support from esteemed partners, including Sauber and BMW Designworks, as it endeavours to revolutionise the aerospace sector through eco-friendly innovations.

The standout feature of the Sirius Jet is its revolutionary hydrogen-electric ducted fan propulsion system, delivering zero-emissions performance while maintaining a remarkably low noise level of just 60 dBa. The aerodynamic design of the jet seamlessly combines the advantages of an airplane and a helicopter, incorporating 20 ducted fans along the wings and eight mounted in the canard. Each ducted fan is independently powered by an electric motor, enabling the jet to achieve a cruise speed of approximately 600 km/h at altitudes of 30,000 ft. Notably, the airframe parachute system serves as a crucial safety feature, providing an additional layer of assurance.

Sirius has unveiled two aircraft concepts to date. The Sirius Business Jet boasts accommodation for up to three passengers and an impressive range of up to 1,850 km, while the Sirius Millennium Jet can comfortably seat up to five passengers with a flying distance of 1,050 km.

The company envisions conducting the inaugural flight of a demonstration plane in 2025, with certification expected to be completed no later than 2027. Barring unforeseen complications, the commencement of jet deliveries to initial clients is slated for 2028.
