Mahindra Aims to Enter the U.S. and China Market

Indian car company Mahindra is reportedly aiming to enter the U.S. and China markets with its electric supercar branded as Pininfarina.

“We’re exploring right now the potential of building an electric supercar, which will be branded Pininfarina. Certainly, we’re looking to sell it in the U.S.,” says Anand Mahindra, the Mahindra Group’s chairman, during the interview with MarketWatch.

The company purchased Pininfarina for $28.1 million in 2015.

“Competing in the U.S. is like the old Frank Sinatra song that if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere,” he said. “So when you sell cars in the U.S., it forces you to be the most competitive.”

Meanwhile, Mahindra will also look to enter China, the world’s No. 1 auto market and a good market for high-end performance cars, through Pininfarina, he said.

As of now there are no specific details about Mahindra’s potential supercar project, but it is expected that the design would borrow some styling elements from Pininfarina’s H2 Speed Concept (shown as above) introduced at last year’s Geneva Motor Show.
