Cars 3 latest teaser trailer

It has been over 10 years since Pixar premiered its first film of the massively successful Cars franchise. In that original instalment, Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) is the epitome of cool, but how does he cope a decade down the line, when he’s no longer the latest and greatest in motorsport? Cars 3, due in June of this year, checks in with McQueen in age of the modern supercar. Back in November, we saw an aggressive and sleek racer competing in the Piston Cup in the first Cars 3 teaser trailer, and now we finally know who he is.

Voiced by Armie Hammer, the antagonist in the new film is Jackson Storm, a 2017 custom-built ‘Next-Gen’ Piston Cup racer powered by an 850hp V8 engine. Judging by the teaser, he is most likely a hybrid, as we can definitely hear the familiar whine of electric motor. Facing a competitor with a faster 0-100 sprint and better top speed, Lightning McQueen realises his career is starting to show its age. Enter the second new character, Cruz Ramirez (voiced by Cristela Alonzo), a 2017 sports coupe who acts as Lightning’s young trainer. How exactly the story will play out is yet to be revealed, but director Brian Fee explained in an interview that the movie is the most human out of the series.

Cars 3 will be released in the US on June 16th and a full trailer is expected soon.
