“Forest Punk”by Dieter Klein
Vintage Cars in Forest

Ever went on a scavenger hunt in the ruins? Those covered in dust, forgotten through time, and classified as antiques are all capable to deliver surprises. Yet, if we were to tell you that antique cars are hidden within these ruins, it should deliver something far more exciting than what the word ‘surprise’ is capable of describing.

German photographer Dieter Klein has been running her photographic project “Forest Punk” for years, a project that focuses on photographing old cars within abandoned wastelands. The original reason for this project was due to her visit to Western France where he found a 70 years old Citroen hidden within a clump of branches and wildflowers. Since then, he has began to trace the corners of the world in search for topics related to the idea of abandoned cars.

These topics included the 1937 Citroren Rosalie shot near Cognac, France; the 1950 Jaguar XK120 shot near Cologne in Germany; and the 1932 Studebaker shot in Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona just to name a few. Each of these beautiful antique cars have lost its glamor through time, and some of their history remains untraceable as told by the photographer. Yet in her photographs, we can see how the passing of time has merged the cars into the natural environment, where fresh green plants grew through the car windows, doors and beneath the chassis.

Until now, Dieter has compiled the photos into a book entitled “Forest Punk” and is now in full preparation for the next book– “Forest Punk II” which continues her journey in search for more abandoned antique cars.
