Floating Crosswalk
The Road Safety Assistant

Iceland installed its first ever 3D crosswalk in Ísafjörður, a small fishing town in Iceland, attracting the attention of both pedestrians and motorists.

The installation’s strong floating visual effect is not only an expression of art, but is sure to remind drivers to reduce their speed, and hence raise awareness for road safety. Ísafjörður’s environmental commissioner initiated the project after seeing a similar crosswalk in India and reached out to road painting creatives Vegamálun GÍH. Should this startling crosswalk prove useful in making drivers reduce speed, Ísafjörður’s should expect many more floating crosswalks installed around their town.
