Decoding the Devil
The Green Hell movie

Few would disagree that the Nordschleife (or North Loop) of Nürburgring is the most demanding and challenging race circuit in the world. Built in the 1920s deep in the Eifel Mountains, legend says the track has claimed the lives of over 200 drivers; three-time Formula 1 World Champion Jackie Stewart nicknamed it “The Green Hell”.

Despite its dangerous nature, races such as the 24 Hours of Nürburgring still takes place on the Nordschleife, and contemporary auto manufacturers use it as the standard measure of fastest lap times achieved by production vehicles. With the Nordschleife’s immense significance to motorsport and the auto industry comes a documentary film dedicated to decoding the tracks devilish secrets.

The film explores the Nordschleife’s deadly nature and seductive charm through the recollections of legendary racers, both past and present such as Jackie Stewart, Hans-Joachim Stuck, Jochen Mass and Lewis Hamilton. Reinforcing these tales are cameos by other key motor racing figures and motorsports journalists who grew up around the Ring, as well as never-before-seen footage from the 1920s onwards and skillfully reenacted scenes.

The Green Hell will be released in the UK, the Republic of Ireland, Germany and Austria on 21 February and on 7 March in Spain and Italy.
