Colorful renovations
Paul Eis

Whether you reside in a city, or just a visitor occasionally passing through, you’re likely to agree that architecture is a city’s face. It creates a first impression and sometimes the most memorable impression in people’s minds. Paul Eis is a photographer living in Germany and frequently travels between Berlin and Hamburg, and in recent years, has witnessed the rapid development of both cities. Not able to bear the dreary urban landscape created by countless ugly, gray buildings, Eis decided to secretly carry out a “renovation project” on behalf of these buildings.

Paul’s Instagram account filled with images of towering skyscrapers with colorful walls reveals the results of his renovation project. Armed with only a camera and a wide-angle lens, he captures impressive buildings during his strolls in the city and then modifies them with new colors. He even replaces the original backgrounds with a blue sky. He then assigns the building with a color according to its characteristics.

Eis says this project is still ongoing, and his style is constantly changing; at first, his early images showcased only the front of the buildings, now he captures the whole of the building. Throughout this project, only the editing of colors has remained consistent. In the future, he intends to visit more cities and is even considering shooting old architecture.
