breaking the land speed record
Kawasaki Ninja H2R

Motorcycle racer Kenan Sofuoğlu is the current and four-time winner of the Supersport World Championship. Sprinting on a bike is part of his everyday life, but the record he did on June 30th in his native Turkey would probably be closer to his heart. With special permission from the authorities, Sofuoğlu attempted to break the 400 km/h top speed record on land on the newly constructed Osman Gazi Bridge before its official opening.

Sponsored by Kawasaki, the Ninja H2R was Sofuoğlu’s natural choice when selecting his partner in crime. While the official maximum speed for Ninja H2R is 380km/h, both Kawasaki and Sofuoğlu thought it could go further. Sofuoğlu made small changes to the motorcycle but kept its original settings without modifications. He reached 390 km/h in his last trials and decided an attempt at 5 am would be most favourable regarding the weather. During his record attempt, he achieved 400 km/h top speed in 26 seconds and showed the world how to celebrate the opening of a bridge in style.
