This year marks the 30th anniversary of the tragic passing of three-time Formula 1 World Champion Ayrton Senna. Numerous tribute designs and events have been unveiled throughout the year, with the latest being the release of the Senna x Asics Gel-Kayano 14 sneakers. Created in collaboration with Senna Brasil, Asics is launching two colourways of the Gel-Kayano 14 to honour the legendary Brazilian driver.
The two colourways draw inspiration from the race car liveries Senna drove during his time with Lotus and McLaren. The first is the Gel-Kayano 14 in black with gold accents, paying homage to the iconic John Player Special livery from his Lotus days. The slogan “Seek Your Truth” in English is featured on the heel. The second colourway honours the Marlboro livery adorning his McLaren race car, with a white base complemented by red and black details. His name, Ayrton Senna, is written in Katakana on the red heel.
Both colourways share common design elements, including a small label on the side featuring yellow, green, blue, and white—colours of the Brazilian flag and also present on Senna’s helmet. These shades extend to the sneaker tongues, while Senna’s distinctive “S” logo completes the design on the top of the back of the shoes.
The Senna x Asics Gel-Kayano 14 sneakers are set to launch first in Brazil on 9th December and globally on the Asics website starting 10th December.
