DeLorean DMC-12

The cult DeLorean DMC-12 turned time machine is definitely the show stealer in the Back to the Future series. One would think that even just purely from its popularity on film, the carmaker would deserve to continue its legacy in real life, had it not been for John DeLorean’s arrest in 1982 and subsequent bankruptcy of his company. No new DeLorean car has been produced since then.

It seems, however, that the situation might change due to a revision in U.S. federal law last December. DeLorean Motor Comany (DMC), a company that is no longer related to the original carmaker, has bee selling second hand DeLoreans and renovating the classic model for years. With the recent law change DMC will be allowed to produce new DeLoreans at their Texas facility. CEO Stephen Wynne said the new cars will be replicas of the 1982 icon, and around 300 cars could be made with the existing parts. For the first time in over 30 years we will be seeing a brand new DMC-12 starting from early 2017. Currently, a refurbished DeLorean is priced at US$45,000 to US$55,000, while the new production one will cost slightly below $100,000.
