Einride T-Pod

Most carmakers focus on developing autonomous cars for carrying passengers, but Swedish firm Einride is working on an autonomous electric truck T-Pod, with the full-size prototype developed.

As the truck is self-driving, it is not necessary to leave any space for a driver, meaning the carrying capacity is maximised to the full. The truck is 23 feet long only but can carry 15 standard pallets. The T-Pod is built with a unique autonomous driving system. It is able to drive itself on highways without any human interventions. On narrower and busier city streets, it can be driven by a human remotely in an offsite remote driving station. A driver can take care of multiple T-Pods at the same time because of its remote operation abilities.

Einride plans to have 200 T-Pods running between Gothenburg and Helsingborg, Sweden by 2020 and is currently developing its charging infrastructure.
