DUFA Albers Automatic Power Reserve DF-9010

Modern industrial design is often said to have originated with Staatliches Bauhaus during the time of Weimar Republic. Based in Thuringen, Germany, watchmaker DUF not only adheres to the Bauhaus design concept of “form follows function” but also pays tribute to architects and artists of yesterday via different watch collections.

German-born American artist Josef Albers was famous for incorporated influences from the Constructivists and the Bauhaus movement in his work. Robert Rauschenberg regarded him as one of the teachers who most influenced him. DUF’s Albers Automatic watch pays homage to Josef Albers. The round shape and straight, geometric lines define the minimalistic dial, with five hands and a square shaped date window serving different purposes. The central hands tell the hours, minutes and seconds, while the hands on 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock display the power reserve and 24-hour time respectively. The two red dots on the sub-dial serve as a reminder when the power reserve falls below five hours.

The 42 mm diameter 316L stainless steel case of Albers Automatic houses a Japanese made Miyota 9132 self-winding automatic movement with 40 hours of power reserve. The case back features two semi-circular sapphire crystal stripes. The watch is water resistant to 30 metres and delivered with either with a crocodile printed leather strap or a stainless steel buckle strap. “Made in Germany” is proudly marked on both the dial and the case back.
