A Winning Piece Of History
Jochen Rindt’s 1967 Brabham BT23 Formula 2 race car

German-born racer Jochen Rindt is probably best remembered as a Formula 1 racer. After passing away at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in 1970, he was still awarded the World Championship title posthumously that year, due to already being too far ahead of closest competitor Jacky Ickx for the season.

The legendary racer also took part in Formula 2 alongside his F1 duties. In 1967, he won nine races driving this particular Brabham BT23. Although the results he achieved did not count towards the final, he was crowned ‘King of Formula 2’ by the press.

Between 1967 and 1968, Brabham produced 31 units of the BT 23. Out of these 22 units went to Formula 2, and this example once driven by Rindt was chassis #5. It was built on a steel frame and powered by the Ford Cosworth 240-hp engine. After the racing season it was exported to Australia and only brought back to Europe in 2009 thanks to its new owner. The car has been completely restored according to the original specifications and is ready for concours or classic car races. This rare Brabham is available for sale by Chrome Cars and can be viewed at the Retro Classic Stuttgart this weekend.
