A Space Odyssey
Destination Moon by MB&F

The most unrestrained ideas are often presented in the most unexpected ways, just like this 8-day clock by MB&F – the Destination Moon.

Conceived by MB&F and built by L’Epée 1839, a premier clock maker from Switzerland, the Destination Moon pulls inspiration from an interesting science fiction torpedo-shaped rocket from the 1960s. It contains a concentric vertical movement that is designed by L’Epée’s in-house movement designer and sci-fi rocket fan Nicolas Bringuet, which follows the basic design of a real spaceship. The power for Destination Moon comes from the oversized winding crown in its base, which references a rocket as its power comes from its base. The management and control systems of a rocket sit above the source of energy; the same holds true for Destination Moon, which has a vertical regulator controlling precision below the time display, as well as a time-setting knob at the top of the movement. The eye-catching regulator with its animated balance uses a small panel of virtually transparent mineral glass as protection from cosmic radiation (and curious fingers).

Additionally, there is a minuscule smile-inducing, space-suited figurine forged from solid silver and stainless steel, which represents American astronaut Neil Armstrong, magnetically attached to the ladder connecting the crown to the movement, imparting a child’s sense of wonder by putting a man on the clock.

Despite its light openwork construction, the Destination Moon weighs a surprising nine pounds to ensure it isn’t easily knocked off course.

Destination Moon is available in 4 limited editions of 50 pieces each in black, green, and blue PVD, and silver.
