IndyCar Unveils New Aero Kits for 2018

IndyCar has unveiled new images of the car that will be used by all Verizon IndyCar Series competitors in 2018. Unlike previous recent seasons, in which competitors could either use bodywork developed by Honda and Chevrolet, all teams in the 2018 season will use this universal aerodynamic bodywork kit.

It is a sleeker-looking design which is again based on the Dallara IR-12 first introduced five years ago. It will come in two configurations: one for super-speedway ovals and the other for street courses, road courses and short ovals.
Although the supplier of the universal kit has yet to be finalized, according to IndyCar “the kit has been reverse-designed to start with a look of past IndyCar favourites while also incorporating the latest technological and safety advancements”. Meanwhile, the engine suppliers for the revised cars will remain Chevrolet and Honda.

IndyCar is planning to begin testing the car in mid-summer.
