A Legendary Evo Reborn
HWA EVO

In the early 1990s, the legendary Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II achieved iconic status as one of the most renowned DTM cars of all time. Klaus Ludwig’s victory in the 1992 DTM championship further solidified its place in history. With a production limited to just 500 units for homologation purposes, it remains highly coveted. The Affalterbach-based company, HWA AG, is now undertaking a restomod project based on this iconic Evo II, aptly named the HWA EVO.

For those unfamiliar with HWA, its founder, Hans Werner Aufrecht, co-founded AMG in 1967 before its integration into Mercedes. Aufrecht also spearheaded Mercedes-AMG’s official factory entry in DTM under the HWA tag. In essence, HWA stands out as the most fitting company for this restomod endeavor.

The HWA EVO utilizes the Mercedes-Benz W201 series as the donor car, undergoing a comprehensive transformation under HWA’s expertise. The refurbishment covers every aspect, from powertrain and chassis to aerodynamics, all paying homage to the 190E 2.5-16 Evo II. While final specifications for the HWA EVO are still pending, features such as flared wheel arches, a substantial rear wing, and a prominent bumper should give you an idea as to its ultra-high performance intentions.

Limited to just 100 units and priced at 714,000 euros before tax, the road-legal HWA EVO is set to begin deliveries at the end of 2025.
