100 Years of Winning
Peugeot L500 R Hybrid concept

Peugeot’s L500 R Hybrid concept celebrates the 100th anniversary of the company’s second Indianapolis 500 victory, captured on 30 May 1916, by Dario Resta driving Peugeot’s L45. The concept pays tribute not only to Resta’s winning L45 but also the “Charlatans” team who won the Indy 500 three times from 1913 to 1919.

As a futuristic interpretation, the L45’s 4.5-litre engine has been replaced by a plug-in hybrid petrol powertrain featuring two electric motors and a petrol engine that collectively produce 500 hp. The L45’s racing spirit, of course, is also maintained, as the L500 R accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds. The L500 R concept has a low profile and is just one metre high; its lightweight body’s sleek lines and a streamlined rear taking inspiration from its ancestor a century ago. The striking blue shade references their 1916 championship car, while the two-toned body paint denotes the concept’s hybrid nature.
