Honda S660 “MUGEN RA” Version

Though not a subsidiary, the relationship between MUGEN and Honda is kind of similar as AMG and STI to Mercedes-Benz and Subaru respectively. The company is renowned for finessing Honda coupes, including the one-off CR-Z MUGEN and the limited production of Civic Type R MUGEN few years ago. So word that MUGEN has launched their new “MUGEN RA” version of the Honda S660 is welcome news.

The specs of the MUGEN RA version are quite different from the manufacturer’s S660 body kit offering, but it achieves the same level of performance. While Japan’s strict Kei Car regulations limit Mugen to only the standard 660cc turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine that produces a meager 63 hp to power the car, its new and louder sports exhaust system will at least make the MUGEN RA sound more powerful. The S660 MUGEN RA features a carbon fiber front grille, new BBS alloy wheels (15 inches in diameter at the front, 16 inches at the back) and adjustable Bilstein dampers. The MUGEN RA costs $8,000 USD more than Honda’s standard S660 ($18,000 USD) and will be on sale October 3rd, with orders taken from now until September 30th on a first-come-first-served basis.
