Vuhl 05RR

While Mexican automaker Vuhl might be a few steps from being a household name, that is about to change. With the launch of their 05RR lightweight speedster, Vuhl now produces Mexico’s most exhilarating export which will soon begin to dominate tracks near you. Their first model, the Vuhl 05 roadster, debuted at 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed and gave a hint of the strength of the concept. Three years on, they have just launched the upgraded 05RR version at this year’s 2016 Goodwood FoS, and it rocks.

The beefed-up open-top two-seater uses a modified Ford 2.3L EcoBoost engine to produce 385 hp. Matched with a bespoke full carbon fibre body shell and a hybrid aluminium-carbon monocoque, the Vuhl weighs a paltry 640 kg dry and thus boasts an impressive 600bhp-per-tonne power-to-weight figure that outshines some of the most well-known supercars. Vuhl 05RR accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.7 face-twisting seconds with a top speed of 257km/h. Don’t be fool by its appearance; the vehicle is fully road legal even though it is intended for track day fun. Price has not been announced, but as a reference, the original 05RR in standard specification comes in at around £60,000. Viva velocity!
