1940s Belly Tank Lakester

Lakesters were created purely for going fast. At the post-WWII period where plenty of single seat aircrafts being available at a low cost, these streamlined bodies with four exposed wheels were built one after one but few survive to the modern days. Luckily there is one available for sale on the Bring a Trailer website.

Built from a WWII-era Lockheed P-38 Lightning aircraft drop tank and a Ford Model T frame, this Belly Tank Lakester is said to be created for running on the El Mirage dry lake in the late 1940s. The car is powered by a V8-60 flathead engine with dual Stromberg 81 carbs and an Eddie Meyers intake. With a 2-gallon fuel tank, the Lakester can only sprint for five to seven minutes each time it is fully filled up. It might be short but definitely worth all the trouble, as testified in below Deus Ex Machina short film Extremity.
