Nissan used the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 to unveil one of its most intriguing performance studies in years: the Aura Nismo RS Concept, a wide-body, high-output take on the compact electric-hybrid hatch. What began as a standard Aura Nismo has been reimagined as a technical showcase blending motorsport influence, production-car engineering and a dash of hot-hatch mischief.
Visually, it is far more aggressive than the regular Aura Nismo. The body has been pushed out by a substantial 145 mm at the arches, while a 20 mm reduction in ride height delivers the hunkered stance expected of a Nismo flagship. Aerodynamics have received equal attention, with a new front spoiler, deeper side skirts, splitters, an airflow-optimised front wing design and a dedicated rear spoiler. Finished in Dark Matte Nismo Stealth Grey, the concept looks every bit the electric city racer Nissan envisions.
The real story, however, lies beneath the skin. Nissan has transplanted the high-output e-Power system from the X-Trail Nismo, pairing a 150 kW front motor with a 100 kW rear unit, managed by Nismo-tuned e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive software. The result is a compact hatch with serious performance, aided by a wider track, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres and uprated brakes featuring four-piston front and two-piston rear callipers. Despite an approximate 100 kg increase in weight, Nissan claims a clear step forward in acceleration, traction, and stability.
For now, the Aura Nismo RS remains a concept, though Nissan admits it is exploring both racing applications and potential production viability.
