After nearly a year without selling a single new vehicle, Jaguar has reemerged with the Type 01, the first production model of its radical reinvention. The British marque discontinued its previous lineup, released a polarising rebrand film that generated billions of impressions, and teased the pink Type 00 concept before finally unveiling this production car in New York. No longer chasing volume sales below $70,000, Jaguar is now aiming squarely at Bentley territory with an all-electric future and no combustion engines as a safety net.
The Type 01 rides on Jaguar’s new Electric Architecture, employing a tri-motor setup, with one motor at the front and two at the rear, delivering a total of 1,015 horsepower and 1,006 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration to 60 mph takes just 3.1 seconds, though engineers prioritised strong mid-range performance between roughly 62 and 112 mph over outright drag-strip figures, in keeping with the car’s grand touring role. A 120-kWh battery on an 850-volt system promises an EPA-estimated 400 miles of range, with the ability to add 200 miles of range in just 13 minutes of charging. American models feature a native NACS charging port.
Measuring 5.2 meters long yet standing just 1.4 meters tall on standard 23-inch wheels, the Type 01 has dramatic proportions. Hidden door handles, frameless glass, and a full-width ribbed rear panel housing the taillights create a distinctive presence, while a ClearSight camera feed displayed atop the dashboard compensates for the absence of a rear window. Inside, a brass-toned spine runs the length of the cabin, framing four individual seats upholstered in Kvadrat wool and Ultrafabrics, with leather available as an option. A 24-inch OLED screen handles instruments and infotainment, complemented by a separate 7-inch climate display.
Customer clinics involving 2,500 participants produced highly polarised results, with more perfect scores and more bottom scores than any previous Jaguar, yet the brand appears to embrace this divisiveness as part of its strategy. Roughly 50,000 people have already registered interest. Pricing begins at $130,500 in the United States (£130,000 in the UK), with order books opening in early 2027 and first deliveries expected later that year. The Type 01 is a bold statement of intent: Jaguar has abandoned familiarity in favour of a high-performance electric grand tourer that redefines what the leaping cat represents.
