The “New” Porsche 917
Homage Design by Cleber Santos

The 24 Hours of Le Mans has surely influenced the auto racing industry in countless of ways. It has not only nurtured some of the world’s most famous drivers, but also a handful of race-winning cars that have become true icons of motorsport, such as the Porsche 917, which scored its first Le Mans victory in 1970, kicking off a long and successful attack on endurance racing for the German automaker over the following decades.

We are not the only ones who are fascinated by this legendary beast. Designer Cleber Santos recently drafted three modern reinterpretations of the legendary 917, which we are dying to see become real. The first is the combination of Porsche’s modern design elements with the original 917. It retains the familiar rear wheel arches of the original 917, but has a large central fin, LED headlights and slightly sharper lines; while the other two stay closer to the original 917 but with new body lines and air intakes, as well as a reshaped windshield and different headlights.

With these concepts, Santos has absolutely nailed the balance between historic hat-tips and modern race car design perfectly.
