TECHART has spent nearly four decades refining modern Porsches, but the latest GTclassic takes that experience in a different direction. For the first time, the German specialist has turned its attention to an earlier air-cooled 911, using the 964 generation as the basis for a limited-run restomod that keeps the familiar silhouette intact while reworking almost everything around it. It’s limited to 11 examples only.
The GTclassic stays close to the proportions of the original car. At the front, newly developed one-piece indicators incorporate the air intakes, joined by modern LED headlights with a distinctive daytime-running-light signature. The champagne-coloured trim runs through the exterior detailing, while the rear gains a TECHART ducktail spoiler with twin air vents and one-piece LED tail-lights. Bespoke 18-inch Retrosport forged wheels reinterpret the classic Fuchs design, with extra openings to improve brake cooling.
The mechanical package is equally comprehensive. In its most powerful specification, the air-cooled 3.8-litre naturally aspirated flat-six produces up to around 375 hp. A specially developed exhaust with centrally mounted tailpipes adds to the car’s character, then a high-performance suspension set-up, Turbo-derived braking system and motorsport engine mounts are tuned to sharpen response without losing the direct feel of an older 911.
TECHART has resisted turning the GTclassic into a numbers exercise. The emphasis is instead on steering feel, balance and the kind of mechanical interaction that makes an air-cooled 911 rewarding at ordinary road speeds as well as when driven harder.
The cabin follows the same philosophy. TECHART’s own leather workshop handles the bespoke trim, with Clubsport seats and a personalised instrument cluster available. A Chrono Package with Hanhart stopwatches brings an appropriately analogue touch, while modern necessities such as Apple CarPlay, navigation and Bluetooth are discreetly integrated through the Porsche Classic Radio. A hi-fi system and ambient lighting add a little more everyday usability.
