Fujifilm’s Instax range has always leaned on the appeal of physical photography, but the new Instax Pal 2 takes a slightly different route.

The Pal 2 is small enough to disappear into a pocket, measuring just 37 x 42 x 92.3 mm and weighing around 87 g. Despite its compact dimensions, Fujifilm has given it a built-in finder, 1.3-inch LCD screen, command dial, and a physical lever that switches between four shooting formats: Instax Mini, Square, Wide, or a conventional frameless 4:3 image. Autofocus includes both Single AF and Face Recognition AF, helping the camera pick out faces when shooting people.

A 10-megapixel mode provides the clearest images, but Fujifilm has also included a deliberately low-resolution 1-megapixel option for a rougher, more nostalgic look. There are 30 effects available through the companion app, covering everything from clean modern tones to Y2K, vintage, chromatic, and more experimental finishes, with up to six favourites loaded into a custom set on the camera.

There’s also an Instax Animation mode. Holding the shutter captures up to 10 consecutive frames, which are combined into a flipbook-style sequence in the app. Remote shooting is supported via smartphone, while an angle-adjustment attachment allows the camera to be positioned for less conventional viewpoints.

Images can be transferred wirelessly over Bluetooth, but connecting the Pal 2 directly to a smartphone via USB-C cuts transfer time to around 0.75 seconds per image. Storage is handled by internal memory or microSD cards up to 2 TB.

Rather than printing pictures itself, this tiny digital camera is designed to make shooting feel more playful and deliberate, before images are transferred, edited, shared, or turned into Instax prints later. Photos can be sent to compatible Instax Link printers or hybrid cameras in Mini, Square and Wide formats. While it’s less of an instant camera in the traditional sense, this pocket-sized digital companion still retains Instax’s familiar analogue character.
