Six Is Better Than Eight?
Holden Unveils New Commodore Supercar Concept

Holden has unveiled images of its new Commodore Supercar concept, previewing its next-generation racer for the 2018 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, entered by Triple Eight Race Engineering.

The 2018 Holden Supercar challenger is based off the much-derided next-generation Commodore, which, after many decades of V8 power, will be motivated by fours and sixes only. The new race car will however be powered by this year’s V8 race engine, though the team is also entering a wildcard entry, powered by a version of the twin turbo V6 that will power all Commodore race cars from 2019 onwards.

The new V6 will be produced at General Motors’ Performance and Racing Centre in Michigan and will meet Supercars’ Gen 2 regulations. Considering that the tried and true V8 is the backbone of the series and always has been, this move away from old school motivation to high-tech wizardry will be a tough one for the very vocal Australian fan base to swallow.
