“Why not?”
Sergio Marchionne hints at Alfa Romeo's possible return to Indycar

There’s a chance that Alfa Romeo might return to IndyCar, after more than two decades of absence from the race.

“Why not Alfa Romeo in IndyCar?” said Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Alfa Romeo’s parent company to Motorsport. “We are thinking about it. Gian Paolo Dallara – I consider him a great, the best Italian engineer around,” he added.

The company’s last IndyCar involvement was during the 1991 season, when it supplied a single team, Patrick Racing, with engines. Last year, the Italian automaker also announced its return to Formula 1 in partnership with Sauber and Ferrari, after a 32-year absence.

While nothing has been set in stone for Alfa Romeo to rejoin IndyCar, the news will surely came as a pleasant surprise for the fans and the drivers.
